Exclusive: Social Studies mp3
Posted 17 December 2009 | by Jay Buim

We are super excited to present you with an exclusive download from San Fransisco’s Social Studies of their latest track, "Weathered White." Somehow that town has kept them a secret from the rest of us, but I don’t see that happening for much longer. They have a full length coming out in 2010, and this song is the sort of thing that will get you very, very excited for it to arrive. Keep in mind though that this isn’t for you to listen to as you frown your way home on the subway. Save it for the soundtrack to your first snowball fight of the season. If you are tired of sitting around and waiting for Broadcast to write a new record like I am, then this one is for you.

Free Danger Party
Posted 16 December 2009 | by Ian Collins

In case you weren't aware, Free Danger is a little outfit that makes art and music and movies and throws awesome parties involving all of the above. Thursday night (tonight!) at Brooklyn's Death By Audio they're putting on a show with 5 amazing, Tokion-approved bands to celebrate the release of a 12-inch of Future Islands remixes that they're putting out. If you're anywhere near Brooklyn, come to see Future Islands, Pictureplane, Javelin, Jones and Moss of Aura. Stay for the Free Danger DJ set and the cheap beer. We'll be there.

Hey Look, There's Booby Bunny

By now you're probably familiar with Brad Neely's "George Washington" video which accurately portrays the life of the former president in a hilarious and inaccurate way. But did you know that this is hardly the limit of Mr. Neely's oeuvre? China, IL is a series that tells the tale of a small town with plenty to offer, and the Professor Brothers series provides some terrible lessons in history as well as a peek at what really goes on behind the closed doors of academia. One of Neely's best videos is "Group Therapy" from his Baby Cakes series, one man's tortured commentary on the trials of daily existence. Watch these videos, you will never be the same again!

Mo' Mo' Momus
Posted 11 December 2009 | by Tim Eastman

Momus is one of Tokion's favorite musicians and we highly recommend you check him out. The music is a combination of well-informed rumination and brilliant storytelling sung over catchy and affecting pop tunes--smart and fun. He also has like a bajillion albums and wears an exciting eyepatch.

Art for All Mankind
Posted 10 December 2009 | by Laura van der Hulst

Tokion spent most of last week overdosing on contemporary art at the Miami art fairs. In between free glasses of champagne at the Tokion sponsored NADA Art Fair, I met some great people, including the team from 7 For All Mankind. The denim brand has aligned with NADA in support of their mission to nurture the growth of emerging artists, curators and galleries. 7 For All Mankind presented their first annual Best Booth Award to Callicoon Fine Arts on opening day along with a check for $7,000. Of course, I had to celebrate with another glass of champagne.
