The Future is Now
Posted 15 April 2010 | by Ian Collins

Listen up everybody: There is an album coming out in May that is so good it might kill you. If you turn it up loud enough it, it has the power to override your basic survival instincts for eating and sleeping in favor of just playing it over and over. At the very minimum you will begin carrying the album around on your ipod and plugging it into stereos and forcing it on DJs everywhere you go. The band is Future Islands and the album—out May 4 on Thrill Jockey—is called In Evening Air. If you think you can handle it, check out the brand new video for their song "Tin Man," directed by our boy Jay Buim. Also, Tokion will be helping to host Future Islands' New York record release party at Death By Audio in Williamsburg on May 1. You're gonna want to be there.

Jammin'
Posted 13 April 2010 | by Jennifer Nies

If you're like me and daydream of night dreaming, a good nights sleep is a rare event worth getting dressed for. Band of Outsiders now has a line of jammies for just such occasion. BOO took the time-honored men's pajama and amped up the detail exclusively for Opening Ceremony to be sold at their Ace Hotel locations. Get some, sleep.

New Growing Album/Video/Tour For You and Yours
Posted 31 March 2010 | by Jay Buim

Growing just came out with a new album which is great news for people who enjoy having their brains melted down into ice cube trays, frozen and then served back to them in a tall glass of brain iced tea. To mark the occasion they created some videos which as you may have guessed have the same effect. My favorite video so far has been this one for the song Highlight that rips apart youtube webcam footage of unknown booty shaking videos and put them back together in ways that are still oddly arousing.

For people looking for this sort of experience in a group setting, Growing is about to set out on tour, kicking it off with a show at Coco66 in Brooklyn which has oddly been having really great shows lately.

For tour dates and more videos check out their myspace page. www.myspace.com/growingsoundnyc

The Italian brand was kind enough to send TOKION some samples of their glasses to check out: Chocolate, a collaboration with Chocolate Skateboards (left) and Lucia (right). Not only do they look good but they are made with Zeiss lenses to protect your eyes against dangerous the UV rays while you enjoy the beautiful weather. Go online to retrosuperfuture.com to get yours and to view their complete collection.

Holy Bible! The Gentlewoman
Posted 19 March 2010 | by Jennifer Nies

I've heard rumors about this but refused to believe it until I saw hard evidence. Turns out, it's true! The Dutch publishing duo Gert Jonkers & Jop van Bennekom responsible for Fantastic Man and BUTT are finally putting out magazine for women. When I say for women, I mean about women and I don't mean simply images of women, but The Gentlewoman is for once about text worthy women. Having Céline creative director Phoebe Philo on the inaugural cover pretty much says it all for its aim at style and substance. In a time where courage is required to start a magazine, The Gentlewoman has no choice but to be brave. The first issue streets March 22.
