BOB BLANK | The Blank Generation: Blank Tapes NYC 1975-1985 [Strut]

For this review, I will be playing the part of your stepdad: “You know, before me and your mother met, I used to DJ in SoHo, back when it was rundown and desolate. The nightlife was frickin’ outta sight; you could find yourself in a club playing disco, punk, funk, gospel—heck, even jazz music. And the thing was, everyone was cool with each other, mixing it up having a good time. At the time, my friend Bob Blank had a little recording studio where all these cats would come and jam out. Arthur Russell would bring some beers, August Darnell would bring the chips, and Lydia Lunch would bring the laughs. I tell ya man, it was something special alright. Things probably won’t be like that ever again, but thankfully Bob had the wherewithal to put it all together, make it sound real clean and record it for posterity to prove that things were once this frickin’ good. Now, would you mind leaving for a little so I can get some alone time with yer ma?”
