The 24-Carat Black
Gone: The Promises of Yesterday [Numero Group]
I never met a funk reissue from the Numero Group that I didn’t love. They always have some sort of crazy backstory, which only adds to the mystery and appeal. Ap-parently, this album—a forgotten follow-up to a misunderstood debut on Stax—was salvaged from water-damaged master tapes found in someone’s basement. I can see that you’re intrigued already. Thankfully, this reissue, plucked from obscurity, proves to be more substance than story.
